Favorite way to keep NAD⁺ levels high

In the lab: NMNH. In real life: a run along the beach, a hike up a mountain, black coffee for breakfast, and skipping the elevator.

About

Our lab investigates how molecular networks deteriorate with age and how restoring their balance can extend healthspan. Using integrated metabolomics, lipidomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and functional genetics, we study how age-related molecular changes impact the organism—ultimately driving physiological decline. A central focus is NAD⁺ metabolism, which we view as a unifying axis connecting molecular homeostasis to mitochondrial resilience, DNA repair, and physiology. Through in vivo lifespan studies and high-resolution multi-omics across species, we identify conserved mechanisms of healthy aging and translate these insights into interventions. These include pharmacological, nutraceutical, and lifestyle strategies—from NAD⁺ boosters to other small molecules, as well as exercise, and plant-based nutrition—aimed at preserving energy metabolism, muscle integrity, and cognitive function throughout life.

Amsterdam University Medical Centers

Amsterdam UMC is a Dutch university medical center that combines patient care, research, and education. It was formed in 2018 through the merger of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) and the VU University Medical Center (VUmc) and is affiliated with both the University of Amsterdam and VU Amsterdam. As the largest university medical center in the Netherlands, it focuses on treating complex diseases, conducting academic medical research, and training future healthcare professionals.
